Little paws · lovely pictures

How to photograph
your cat.

A little light, a little patience and a cat who gets to be themselves. Start with a phone or the camera you already have.

Try a little today

Six small changes.
A lovelier little photo.

01

Find the lovely light.

Try a spot beside a window with soft, indirect daylight. Turn off a nearby lamp if it gives the fur a different colour.

02

Meet them at eye level.

Lower your phone or camera to your cat’s height. Notice how a familiar corner suddenly feels like their little world.

03

Keep the eyes in focus.

On a phone, tap the nearer eye. With a camera, try animal-eye autofocus if available. Take a few frames when the expression changes.

04

Let the background breathe.

Move yourself a little to the left or right. A quiet wall, some distance behind your cat and fewer distractions can make a big difference.

05

Follow their curiosity.

Let a favourite toy invite a look. Keep the moment short, and stop when your cat moves away or loses interest. A relaxed subject makes the loveliest picture.

06

Keep the little story.

Try a portrait, a wider view of the room and a tiny detail: paws, whiskers or a favourite sleeping spot. Together, they tell more than one perfect pose.
